Description: The hiking trail from Poženik near Cerklje na Gorenjskem to Šenturška Gora is popular among hikers, especially during the Christmas and New Year season. It follows a well-trodden and well-used cart track, which was once the main connection between these two places. The starting point is at the end of the village of Poženik. The trail initially ascends steeply to a chapel and then levels out.
During this festive period, locals place numerous nativity scenes along the path, depicting the humble conditions of Jesus's birth. In 2023, visitors counted over 80 nativity scenes, with the number increasing to around 100 by Christmas.
The nativity scenes are set in creative spots in nature, such as tree hollows, under roots, beneath rocks, and in caves, offering visitors a unique experience of the festive atmosphere in a natural setting.
The trail also features a chapel with an image of Mary Help of Christians, where hikers can ring a bell for health and a safe journey.
Visiting this trail is recommended during daylight hours for safety, as certain sections may be prone to landslides that can damage the path. Parents should pay extra attention to children, as some parts of the trail have steep slopes below.
For the hike, we recommend appropriate hiking gear, including sturdy footwear and trekking poles, especially in winter conditions.
Visiting the trail from Poženik to Šenturška Gora during the festive season offers a unique experience of nature, culture, and spirituality, further enriched by the carefully placed nativity scenes by the locals.
