BARLE HOUSE
The Barle memorial is a firefighter competition, which is held in Cerklje every year in memory of Fran Barle, as this doyen and organiser of Slovenian firefighting was born here. Even before World War, I he was a leading personality in the Association of Carniolan Firefighting Societies, which was renamed to Slovenian Firefighters Association in 1910. It was due to him that firefighting rules in Slovenian were available. He was also the editor of the firefighting newspaper Gasilec. The role of Fran Barle was not only an instigatory one, however, but also a visionary and professional one, which is testified to by his professional texts. He was interested in the techniques of firefighting and firefighting equipment. With his work and merits for the development of Slovenian firefighting, he has been given the title of an honorary member of numerous firefighter associations in Slovenia, while his reputation and honorary memberships were spread far beyond Slovenian borders as well. We are reminded of his role by the memorial plate in Borštnikova street and a bust in the memorial park. Fran Barle was born in 1864 in Cerklje and passed away in 1928 in Ljubljana.
